EQUIPPING CHRISTIANS FOR LIVES OF EVERYDAY DISCIPLESHIP

                                                     Upcoming:

Celtic Spirituality Retreat

Sharon Gallagher

Saturday, March 13, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.  (no lunch) Chapel Classroom #1, Pacific Lutheran Seminary

2770 Marin Avenue, Berkeley   Cost: $25

Celtic Christianity presents a Christ-centered model for wholeness in our theology and our experience of God. The prayers and songs of these ancient Christians invite God to enter and transform their daily lives. It’s a spirituality that’s both down to earth and imaginative—with the ability to see the glory in creation as a revelation of God.

Sharon Gallagher (M.T.S.) is New College Berkeley associate director and editor of Radix magazine. She is author of Finding Faith: Life-Changing Encounters with Christ.

Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre: A Woman's Spiritual Journey

Margaret Horwitz

Saturday, April 10, 9 a.m.-noon, Room 103, First Covenant Church of Oakland,

4000 Redwood Road, Oakland   Cost: $25

Charlotte Brontë’s well-loved, classic novel, Jane Eyre contains more than 150 biblical references. This course will look at patterns in these allusions as we look closely at themes in the novel. We’ll also consider film adaptations of this work (using DVD clips), especially the 1996 Franco Zeffirelli adaptation,

Margaret M. Horwitz (Ph.D.) has a doctorate in Film and Television Studies, is visiting professor of Christianity and literature at New College Berkeley, and was a 2009 Traveling Lecturer for the Jane Austen Society of North America.
